HNLC militant surrenders

SHILLONG, MAR 17:  Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant surrendered before the Meghalaya police after escaping from the outfit’s camp in neigbouring Bangladesh.

Elvis Syiemlieh alias Lungiut surrendered himself before East Khasi hills district SP M Kharkrang on Monday.  His surrender came when some youths including two leaders of students union from the Khasi – Jaintia region had left their organization to join the banned outfit.

Syiemlieh, who hails from Pyndengsohsaw village under Mawsynram police station had joined the HNLC way back in 2003, Kharkrang informed reporters

Kharkhrang, however, said that he did not deposit any arms and ammunition.   “Syiemlieh had managed to escape from Bangladesh recently,” he informed.

Kharkhrang, however, failed to disclose any more details but said that interrogation is going on.- By Our Reporter
