HSPDP bike rally

SHILLONG, SEPT 21:  The drizzle did not dampen the HSPDP youth wing members as many got into their bikes with the party’s flag fluttering distributing pamphlets to the public on the need for implementing Article 371 of Indian constitution  in Meghalaya. The HSPDP bike rally was led by party MDC and youth wing president Pyniad Sing Syiem on Monday afternoon from the Nongthymmai football ground.

Before the bike rally took off, Syiem told the youth wing party members that the bike rally is not only to generate awareness among the people on the need to implement Article 371 of the Indian constitution but also to support the motion that their vice president Ardent Basaiawmoit is going to table during the ongoing assembly session on Tuesday.

Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) president Lamphrang Kharbani, who was also present, said he wished to show his gratitude to the HSPDP for demanding implementation of Article 371 for the protection of the indigenous community of the state.

Before the bike rally took off, HSPDP vice president and legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit came to the field to meet the party bikers. He told this reporter that he is demanding implementation of Article 371 in the state of Meghalaya to protect the customary law and practices, protecting its land and resources.

HSPDP bike rally criss-crossed Shillong and the outskirts and the bikers were slated to converge to Basaiawmoit residence at Lad Nongrem.- By Our Reporter
