‘Cancel trading licenses’

SHILLONG, OCT 19: Opposition Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Wednesday demanded cancellation of all the trading licenses issued to non-tribal traders of Them Metor at Them Iew Mawlong. Raising the issue during the question hour, HSPDP MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem said that the executive committee should consider cancelling all the trading licenses on ground that the area has been allotted to them for residential purposes.

He was reacting to the reply of the KHADC CEM PN Syiem who informed the house that as many as 36 trading licenses have been issued to non-tribal traders in Them Metor.

Pyniaid further questioned on whose authority were these non-tribal traders, also residents of the area, allowed to turn the place into a commercial area while expressing resentment on the inaction of the EC against the alleged illegal construction of the Gurudwara.

In his reply, the KHADC CEM said that the Council is bound to issue trading license as per provisions of the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation when applicants have approach with proper NOC from Hima Mylliem.

He however assured the house that the matter will be examined and a follow up will be done as per the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation.-By Our Reporter
