Huge ganja seizure from Shillong bypass

SHILLONG, JULY 1: Custom department arrested two person and seized 1500 kg of Ganja worth approximately Rs 22,500,000 from Shillong bypass.

The truck bearing number BR 01 G B81 95 was from Tripura and was on its way to Bihar. According to custom official, “Seizure of large consignment of ganja was probably coming from Tripura its being hidden in the back of the truck its a compressed ganja and around 150​packets around 1500 kg”.

“Earlier such cases were reported from Manipur but now there were cases of narcotic drugs being smuggled from Tripura to rest of India. Consignment seized in the past has been meant for states like up and Bihar,” the official said.

The driver and the handyman arrested.  So far in 2017 there were eight cases of Ganja seizure where more than 3500 kgs seized. This is another major seizure.

Meanwhile, after arrest, the driver of the vehicle Munib singh, 30 years, a resident of Bihar said, “I came here for the first time, they assured me to pay Rs 30,000 for taking the truck to Bihar”.

“I am taking the truck from Lumshnong, I came to Lumshnong with another vehicle but after that develop some snag these people asked me to take this truck instead to Bihar,” the driver said.

The handyman is however 32 years old and was reportedly unwell.​
