ILP Stir: 50 lakhs loss, leaders’ arrest soon

SHILLONG, SEPT 20: Even as East Khasi hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal informed that property worth fifty lakhs have been damaged during the ongoing agitations by the pro Inner Line Permit (ILP) activists, he also warned that the arrest of the ngos leaders is on the card.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Goyal informed that the district administration is registering an attempt to murder against the miscreants who had attacked an ambulance belonging to the Seng Samla Malik at 3rd miles on Thursday night. Terming the attack on the ambulance ferrying sick person as unprecedented, he also informed that some ngos leaders are misusing ambulances.

Speaking about the physical loss, Goyal said so far the physical loss is around Rs 50 lakhs during the agitations sponsored by the ngos demanding implementation of the ILP even as he informed that the state government is assessing the loss of revenue.

Goyal informed that the district police has so far registered  more than fifty cases and forty people have been arrested in connection with various cases of arson. He said the district administration has an open mind to book these agitators under Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act and a decision in this regard will be taken as and when warranted.

Speaking about the arrest of the ngos leaders Goyal said the arrest  of the leaders  is on the card and informed that cases will be registered in the name of the organizations as most of the miscreants  arrested were caught red- handed  while committing the crimes.

Goyal also said that, the district administration would take legal action against the ngos and seek compensation for all the loses that have been incurred during such agitations.- By Our Reporter
