IMCT to visit Meghalaya to assess damage

SHILLONG, JUNE 20: The Centre has decided to send an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to visit the flood-affected areas of Assam and Meghalaya to assess the damages.

 

This was informed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday.

 

“An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will visit the flood-affected areas of Assam and Meghalaya to assess the damages. After the earlier spell of floods, an IMCT visited the affected areas of Assam from 26 May to 29 May, 2022,” Shah tweeted.

 

The Union Home Minister also informed that he had spoken to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma to discuss the situation in parts of both states in the wake of heavy rainfall & flooding.

 

“Modi government stands firmly with the people of Assam and Meghalaya in this hour of need,” he said.

 

Over 19 people were killed due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills region of the state on June 16 and 17.

 

After visiting the families affected by landslides in Mawsynram block, Meghalaya Chief Minister had announced that the state government will release Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased victims.
