KSU on driver’s case

SHILLONG, FEB 16: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Tuesday demanded that chief minister Mukul Sangma to break his silence and intervene into the recent arrest of the tourist-taxi driver, who was implicated under ‘attempt to murder’ case.

“We appeal to the CM, who till date maintain silence over the issue to come forward and execute his authority as the chief minister of the people of Meghalaya irrespective of their distinctions to kindly ease the case against the driver by pardoning him,” the KSU-central executive council said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The union also said, “This will give relieve to the driver’s family and well-wishers as it is quoted to err is human but to forgive, divine.”

Jeskalur L Mawdoh, the driver of the Mahindra Max, which hit the official vehicle carrying the chief minister on February 11, was arrested and booked under section 307 IPC.

“What is even more disappointing is that the security officer to the CM wasted no time in implicating JL Mawdoh with the case of attempting to murder by booking him under the case 307 IPC,” the union said.

However stating that Mawdoh is the bread earner of his family, the union reiterated, “The CM should step in as soon as possible to break the deadlock once and for all by condoning the said driver.”-By Our Reporter
