SHILLONG, SEP 7: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Estimates, led by Nongpoh Legislator Mayralborn Syiem, has expressed its satisfaction with the progress of the construction of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Sakwang, Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills.
Chairman of the Estimates Committee, Mayralborn Syiem, expressed his optimism about the institute becoming fully operational soon. He noted that only the external electrification work and water connectivity remained pending.
Syiem also extended gratitude to the Dorbar Shnong of Sakwang for generously donating approximately 4 acres of land to the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training under the Department of Labour for the ITIs construction, which is expected to benefit the youth of the district.
He elaborated that the ITI would offer training in five trades, including Surface Ornamentation Technique and Embroidery, Wireman, Office Assistant cum Computer Program, Multimedia-Animation-Special Effect, and Driver cum Mechanic.
Committee Member and Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, pointed out that students from the district had previously had to travel to other districts for their education. With the establishment of this ITI, students from South West Khasi Hills would have improved access to vocational training.
He expressed hope that the institute would become fully operational at the earliest.
The tour also included Committee Members Adelbert Nongrum, Miani D Shira, Wailadmiki Shylla, Arbingstone B Marak, Damanbait Lamare, Remington Momin, and officials of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The inspection of the ITI was part of the Estimate Committee’s two-day tour across four districts of the state, which included West Jaintia Hills District, East Jaintia Hills District, East Khasi Hills District, and South West Khasi Hills.
On September 6, the Committee inspected the construction progress of a Residential School in Sabahmuswang and assessed the Lumshnong – Sonapur road in West Jaintia Hills District.
Subsequently, the Committee proceeded to East Jaintia Hills to inspect the construction of the Byndihati Residential School, with the presence of local MLA Santa Mary Shylla during the inspection.
Today, the Committee examined the progress of the Science & Commerce College in Mawphlang, East Khasi Hills District, and reviewed the Mawphlang – Balat road, starting from Lad Mawreng up to Weiloi, in addition to the ITI in Sakwang, Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills.
