A Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising NEHUTA, NEHUNSA and NEHUSU on Tuesday stormed and stopped the holding of the Academic Council meeting as a mark of protest against the NEHU VC Prof PS Shukla’s failure to terminate a contractual technical officer and other charter of demands.

After a protest march, leaders of the NEHUTA, NEHUNSA and NEHUSU forcefully entered the conference hall in the administrative building where the academic council meeting was scheduled to be held and requested all its members to join hands in their protest.

The JAC has been demanding the VC to terminate the contractual technical officer and senior consultant Rohit Prasaid, to activate GeM ID, provide medicine to health centres in the campus, regular fellowship for research students, increase non-NET fellowship and revamping hostel facilities.

The AC meeting was called by the VC to discuss various issues which includes the implementation of the national education policy (NEP).

The JAC had also locked the office of Rohit Prasad. According to them, the appointment of Rohit Prasad was illegal.

Speaking to reporters, JAC chairman Prof Lakhon Kma said, “He (Rohit) has vacated his office and in the coming days he will also have to evacuate his quarter failing which take similar action of locking his quarter as well.”

Prof Kma also announced a non-cooperation movement against the NEHU VC.

“The JAC will no longer come to talk with the VC with regard to the appointment of Rohit Prasad but they are ready to come and discuss the other long-pending issues of the three NEHU associations,” he said.
