Jail brawl : Is there more than meets the eye ?

shillong distroct jailSHILLONG, JUNE 27: It took the Shillong jail authority twelve hours to file an FIR with the police relating to the brawl inside the high security cell where the GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma was lodged. The militant leader was badly injured along with four of the attackers and were immediately rushed to the Shillong Civil hospital on Wednesday. It is also surprising that neither the government nor the district administration has instituted any inquiry into the incident.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang told this website that the police have registered a case under section 323, 353, 506 and 34 of the IPC after the Shillong District jail jailor Bablu Marak filed an FIR at the Sadar police station at around 8 pm on Wednesday.

Eyebrows are being raised as to why it took twelve hours for the Shillong District jail authority to file a simple FIR. Besides, neither the government nor the district magistrate office has constituted any inquiry into the entire incident. Home department officials spoken to said that the case is now in the domain of the DC and SP.

When contacted the East Khasi hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that he had deputy the ADM DM Wahlang yesterday to inquiry into the brawl that led to the hospitalization of the GNLA chief and he had submitted a report saying that there was a fight between the Champion and the four UTPs. Besides that Goyal said, “We did not go into details as to why the brawl took place.”

On the issue as to why he has not instituted any magisterial inquiry to find out the causes of the brawl, Goyal said, “ Let the government take a call on that on whether it wants a magisterial inquiry or not.” – By Our Reporter

How can a deputy Commissioner say “we did not go into details as to why the brawl took place”…Was it staged then?? and is it not the duty of the administration to delve further…and the speed with which they removed the DG Prisons, seems really planned and they would not dare probe as it may open up into a cans of worms…
