SHILLONG, FEB 5: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) staged a surprise protest, voicing frustration over the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC)’s inaction against implementation of Pnar language and illegal trading by non tribals in the two districts of East and West Jaintia Hills.

At the forefront of the protest, JNC president Sambormi Lyngdoh expressed disappointment over the JHADC’s failure to address illegal trading by non-tribals and implement the Pnar language, despite a resolution passed in its favor.

“We’re not looking to create chaos, but to wake up the JHADC to its responsibilities towards the indigenous people,” Lyngdoh said, emphasizing the need for the council to prioritize local interests.

The JNC’s demands include revoking trading licenses issued to non-tribals, incorporating Pnar language in official communications, and convening a special session to promote its use.
