Job stir report to be given to ECI

P NaikSHILLONG, JAN 16: Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said he will be sending the report of the agitation held by the job aspirants to the Election Commission of India (ECI) by today. He informed that as soon as the report of the agitation comes to him from the police and the district administration he will immediately send it across to the ECI.

On the backdrop of the agitation by the Association of Qualified Grade IV Candidates (AQGC) on Tuesday demanding appointment in the government departments and the subsequent scuffle between the agitators and the police, Meghalaya Chief Electoral Official (CEO) P Naik has appealed to the public to maintain public order and avoid agitation.

With the imposition of code of conduct for the upcoming Meghalaya assembly election slated for February 23, Naik said, “The public must cooperate with the district administration to maintain public order so that the process of elections can be conducted peacefully.”

Naik, however, refuse to comment on whether the district magistrate can give any assurance of appointment as the chairman of the District Selection Committee (DCS) to the agitating job aspirants. He said, “ I really do not know the nature of the meeting and what sort of assurance the DM will make, so I will comment only if I receive a copy of the decision taken.”

Naik said that the public, including the ngos whom he term as member of public, must understand that they must not do anything that will hamper the election process and instead be patience till the new government comes to power so that they can approach with their grievances.- By Our Reporter
