Winner by lucky draw

SHILLONG, FEB 27: The result of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) MDC seat for the Jowai central constituency had to be decided by the lucky draw in which Congress candidate Awhai Andrew Shullai was declared elected. After the counting of the votes for the Jowai central constituency it was found that Shullai and UDP candidate Kitboklang Nongtdu were tied after both polled 2316 votes.

As both the Congress and UDP candidates were tied, the recounting of the ballot votes were again done in the room of the returning officer and West Jaintia hills district deputy commissioner PS Dkhar. He told this website even after the recounting of the ballot votes- the EVMs are not touched- the result was the same.

Dkhar then decided to settle the winner through the luck draw with two chit of papers. Dkhar in the presence of both the candidates and other officers picked up a chit and Awhai Andrew Shullai name as the winner popped up.- By Our Reporter
