SHILLONG, MAY 15: The KHNAM’s State Youth Wing along with the aggrieved qualified candidates for Jugali posts will hold a public meeting on May 19, to take stern decision against the MeECL’s failure to issue the appointment letters.

The decision was taken after the expiry of the deadline served to the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to complete the process of appointing all the candidates for the post today.

The meeting which is proposed to be held at Student’s Field, Jaiaw will be attended by the candidates from the different districts of Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills region.

“We will take a collective decision on our next course of action to put pressure on the MeECL to immediately issue appointment letters to all the candidates,” KHNAM-SYW president Thomas Passah told reporters here.

Stating that the time has become a big factor, he said, “This is because of the fact that the validity period of the merit list for the said posts is going to end after two months from now (August 2).”

The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) had declared as many as 772 successful candidates for the Jugali posts, which were advertised way back in 2011.

It may be mentioned here the results was also declared after a delay of five years. Following pressure, the MeECL had decided to issue the appointment letters to candidates in three phases.

While candidates under the phase-I have been issued with the appointment letters, a total of 466 candidates under phase-II and phase-III are yet to be appointed till today.

“We demanded the MeECL to issue appointment letters to the candidates under these two phases in one go taking into account that there is no more time,” Passah said.

Meanwhile, the KHNAM-SYW president also informed that they are still preparing for filing a petition before the Meghalaya High Court, if the MeECL fails to complete the entire process beforeAugust 2.

Further accusing the MeECL of violating the government rules in as far as the process of job appointment is concerned, he said that it is an irony that the corporation had to make appointment in 3 phases on the same merit list.

“We highly suspected that the MeECL is trying to deprive these candidates of their legitimate rights to get appointed for the posts,” Passah alleged.
