KNGCSU sets a month’s deadline to Gov’t

IMG_20171006_141812SHILLONG, OCT 6: The Kiang Nangbah Government College Students’ Union (KNGCSU) today demanded the state government to sanction permanent posts of assistant lecturer for the three streams (Science, Commerce & Arts) of the College’s higher secondary section.

Addressing newsmen here on Friday, KNGCSU president Pyniar Dhar said that following the de-linking of the college to higher secondary section (classes XI & XII) in 2015, the government had only appointed assistant lecturers on contractual basis.

However, teachers are resigning one after the other whenever they get a permanent posting elsewhere and also due to the non-releasing of their salaries for months, thus leaving many departments without teachers since July, this year, he said.

According to him, this has to great extend affected the students of the higher secondary section.

“Therefore, we demand the state government to immediately consider creating permanent posts of assistant lecturer for the higher secondary section within a month’s time, failing which we would be compelled to take up agitational programmes,” Dhar said.

Asked, he said that the delegation today had also met the Minister in-charge of School Education and Literacy Deborah Marak for her intervention into the plight faced by the students of the college.

“She (Marak) had assured us that she would take up the matter to ensure that this problem is addressed,” he added.

In the memorandum submitted to the minister, the union had proposed creation of 3 permanent posts in all the departments under the Science, Commerce & Arts streams except for English and Khasi subject which they proposed five teachers for each department.

Meanwhile, the KNGCSU has also demanded the appointment of full-fledged Principal, Vice-Principal and different non-teaching staff for the higher secondary section.

Dhar said that the government had earlier proposed to appoint a full-fledged principal and vice-principal during the delinking of the College but till now nothing has been done in this regard.
