KSU closed down NEHU VC’s office

SHILLONG, MAY 22: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Monday closed down the office of the Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla for his alleged failure to address the problems faced by the students of the university.

Members of the KSU NEHU Unit went and locked the office of the VC during working hours after seeing that there have been no concrete steps taken by the VC to resolve the problems faced by the students in regards to the hostel facilities and the bus services.

President of the KSU-NEHU Richest Malngiang informed that the union had taken up the issues related to students’ welfare with the VC last month. The VC had assured the delegation to take necessary action on the matter.

“However even after a lapse of one month, the students are continuing to suffer due to the inability of the vice chancellor to address their problems. Today, we tried to meet the VC to seek clarity on the delay to take action but he refused to meet us. Therefore, we are compelled to put the VC’s office under lock and key,” he said.

Malngiang said that authorities would take weeks to change even a fused bulb in the hostel causing students to sit in the dark.

Moreover, there are only 7 buses to cater to the students of the university. Due to this, the majority of the students are left with no option but to use other modes of transportation.

According to him, it is the duty of the university authority to address this problem.
