KSU members booked for assault

Shillong, August 13: Three Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) members of Nongthymmai unit were detained by Laitumkhrah police for assaulting and manhandling passengers travelling in a Sumo on their way to Jaiñtia Hills district on Monday afternoon.

Thirteen laborers hailing from Dosa District of Rajasthan were on their way to Lumshnong in Jaiñtia Hills to start work at the Star Cement plant.

Members of the KSU Nongthymmai unit chased the Sumo and forced it to stop, after which they demanded identifications,  but when the labourers  failed to produce any documents some of them were assaulted.

Commenting on the reason that the KSU members are checking illegal migrants, a senior police officer said, “No one has the right to assault anyone. If they catch someone who is not an Indian citizen then they should contact the police, and we will not tolerate anyone taking the law into his own hands.”- By Our Reporters
