The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Monday sought action against a lower primary school teacher for negligence of duty, which has to great extent affected the students.

A complaint against Wikiru Shylla, a faculty member of Lower Primary School, Larnai in West Jaintia Hills District, was lodged with the education minister Rakkam A Sangma.

“His (Shylla) irregular presence has caused a great loss for the students as well as the other faculty members of the school,” KSU-WJHDU president Laitphar Syngkrem said in the letter while adding “Surprisingly, he (Shylla) has been receiving his salary on a regular basis which is highly unfair. We strongly condemn Wikiru Shylla for his unpunctuality which has created negative impact on the academics of the students.”

Speaking to media persons after meeting Sangma, the union’s education secretary Hababiangki Biam said the said teacher had joined the school on  July 4, 2013.

“The number of classes he attended was only 33 days in 2013, 23 days in 2014,” he said adding that due to such action, the said teacher was put under suspension from March 2017 to November 2019 and was reinstated from December 2019 till today without attending regular classes.
