Kyndailad designated taxis

SHILLONG, FEB 25: In a bid to make Khyndailad commuter-friendly, the East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association (EKHLTWA) has come up with designated stands to ferry passengers to different parts of the city.

The idea of this ‘designated stand’ which was already made effective for the past one week has helped in addressing the concerns expressed by commuters in term of getting a cab from the area, EKHLTWA general secretary Wandonbok Jyrwa told reporters on Thursday.

According to him, people now will no longer faced the usual problem of having to wait for hours in the Khyndailad area to get a taxi that is willing to take them to required destination.

“Very often we receive complaints about drivers not willing to response to passengers if they are not going to the destination which makes them feel irritating with such attitude,” Jyrwa said.

Stating that there are at least four stands in and around the area, he said we have a separate stand for taxis that would be carrying passengers to Polo, Nongmynsong and NEIGHRIMS area, Laban area, Nongthymmai – Madanrting area, Laitumkhrah – Rynjah area.

For a start, there would be 50 such taxis in each of these stands and their services will be extended till 8 pm, he said.

“We however appealed to the commuters to cooperate with the arrangement by starting to  board taxi from the respective stands,” he said while informing that there will also be people who will be looking after the stands.

According to him, the arrangement was also appreciated by the East Khasi  hills SP M Kharkrang. He said this has further help decongest the Khyndailad area.- By Our Reporter
