LAEF militants arrested

TURA, SEPT 7: Meghalaya police on Saturday arrested two hardcore militants of Liberation of A’chik Elite Force (LAEF) from two different locations along Assam – Meghalaya border areas.

Mingnam Sangma, 24 was arrested from Rongtu village under Bajengdoba police station in North Garo Hills. Another militant Sengrak Sangma, 26 was arrested from Garo Kaumari village in Assam’s Goalpara district.

Mingnam is commander of finance and operates along Bajengdoba, Aruakgre, Achotchonggre in North Garo hills and Dadenggre, Dollonggre up to Tikrikilla in West Garo hills.

Police said both the militants were on leave and were at their home, when they were arrested on Saturday night.

The outfit is led by Biltang as its self-styled chairman, who succeed late Peter Marak and self -styled commander-in-chief is Mathew Marak of Bakrapur in Assam’s Goalpara district.

Sengrak is a self-styled sergeant major and is also a commander of finance wing of the outfit. In his statement to police, Sengrak alias Dilash said that their command has AKs, 9 mm pistol, hand grenades and rocket launcher.

On September 1, police had arrested LAEF militant Hamid Marak from Khoripara near Bajengdoba in North Garo hills. Marak had confessed of being involved in the firing incident at Gokol market.- From Our Correspondent
