Lajong outclass Pailan with 3-1 win

Shillong, Nov 28: Shillong Lajong thrashed Pailan Arrows 3-1 in a match that saw the local lads maintaining and dictating the game even as the tourist was trying to find its feet Wednesday at JN stadium sport complex.

With Wednesday’s win Shillong Lajong earned full points in the round eight  match of the I-League defeating off coloured Pailan Arrows. With this win now Lajong has now moved up the point tally chart with ten points from eight matches.
Taking advantage of the home ground Lajong took an early lead before the tourist could even test the turf with Sushil Kumar Singh who neatly headed home the areal cross ball set by Jacob  Lalrawngbawla from left flank into the box in the 3rd minute of the game.

The local lads maintained the pressure on the visitors in the the field and in the 19th  minute of the game Jacob Lalrawngbawla powerful shot re-bounced hitting the bar.  Had the shot been an inch down the lead would have been different.

In the 30th minute of the game the effort of Friday Gbeneme, skipper Renedy Singh and Sushil Singh went in a vain as the last touch made by Sushil went spirallingly out.
It was only in the 40th minute of the game Pailan Arrows really came close to scoring a goal as the players came in the goal mouth when Alwyn George set the ball for Prabir Das, whose shot just kissed the pos with the ball flying ourside.
At the end of the first half the score card was reading 1-0. In the 49th minute Lalchhuanmawia set the ball inside the 24 yard arena for Sushil  showed a few footwork before setting  the ball home for 2-0.

In the 52nd minute of the game Friday Gbeneme gently touched the skipper Renedy  Singh’s flag kick into the target and made the score card read 3-0.

However, in the 65th minute of the game midfielder D. Ganesh taking a long range  shot lobbed the ball over Lajong custodian Lalthuammawia Ralte and reduced the  margin for the Pailan Arrows.

Lajong’s North Korean defender Minchol Son was laterad judged the man of the match  for his outstanding performance in the defence line.– By Suraj Joshi
