Legislators driving youth to join militant outfit: ANVC

Shillong, Oct 1:  The ANVC (B) declared “non-cooperation movement” against the present elected representatives of Garo hills region in the upcoming 2013 state assembly elections saying they were the main reason that drove youths to join revolutionary group.

In a statement issued Monday, the ANVC (B) said, “Bandhs and other democratic protest failed to make any impact on the government. Therefore, we will initiate mass awareness on adult franchise and democratic rights and mobilise a democratic front for 2013 election.”

The outfit has accused legislators from Garo hills of neglecting the region and turning a deaf ears to the demand of the people. The statement said, “The elected representatives of Garo Hills do not consider Garo Hills issues as a matter of their concern.”

The statement said, “Their (legislators) negligence have inspired many youths who opt for a change to join a revolutionary group like ours and most of the youths of Garo Hills are exhausted and lost their faith in the political leaders, instead youths support the revolutionary movement.”

The ANVC statement warned, “2013 election will prove the stand of the Garo Hills youths as the present political line-up is about to face a drastic change.”

The militant outfit accused the  MLAs of neglecting their duties as representatives of the people and instead setting record for sleeping inside the assembly, going to foreign tours, floating political parties and switching parties, playing cards in expensive hotels every evening but fails to raise Garo Hills issues.

The ANVC-B further said, “Be it GHADC, influx issues, reservation policies, salary of teachers or council employees, Better health facilities or improvement of education etc, none of the MLAs took any initiative to improve the system in last 5 years, therefore it is time to change the leaders for the coming 5 years.”- By Our Reporter
