Lyngdoh has no problem closing MUDA office

ampareenSHILLONG, JUNE 20: Even as the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) on Wednesday demanded the closure of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) office at Byrnihat following the termination of jobs of two casual workers who were working as cleaner, the Meghalaya urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said she does not have any problem if the MUDA office is not wanted there and said she can shift it to Shillong or other areas where it is needed.

A delegation of the RBYF met Lyngdoh on Thursday in her office and said the MUDA office has failed to provide employment to the people of the district.

RBYF president BB Makdoh said, “We have found that the expansion of MUDA office to Byrnihat is of no meaning as nothing was done for the good of the people and the office has no clear cut roles and responsibilities and jurisdictions.”

Makdoh  said the RBYF is perturbed over the failure of the MUDA to provide employment to the people from Ri-Bhoi and even those appointed earlier as casual workers have been removed and did not even receive salary for many months.

According to the RBYF, Lyngdoh told them that the service of the two casual employees was discontinued since MUDA has no revenue to generate for paying of salary.

“We were made to understand that the presence of MUDA office at Byrnihat is a liability for the government and it is better to close it down,” Makdoh said.

Meanwhile Lyngdoh told this website how MUDA can justify for the appointment of three casual cleaners in the two rooms’ office at Byrnihat. She said the CAG and the PAC have been questioning about the logic in appointing three people for cleaning two rooms office. She said  people are only seeing that two casual workers who have been removed because of fund constraint but are turning a blind eye to those who had got employment.

Lyngdoh wondered what is going to happen to the other employees who are working in the MUDA office in Byrnihat if it is closed as demanded.- By Our Reporter
