Lyngdoh slams Dohling for deceiving people of Mylliem

SHILLONG, FEB 7: Congress leader and former legislator of Mylliem Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Tuesday slammed the sitting legislator Hamletson Dohling for “deceiving” the people of the constituency over the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) issue.

After filing his nomination, Ronnie said that the only reason that led to his defeat in the last 2018 assembly polls was because people were misled about the building byelaws.

“Had it been for some other reasons, I would not have bounced back after one year being defeated as MLA by about 450 votes and then winning the MDC elections, a year later by more than 2,000 votes. That only shows that the people still have confidence in me and people still have confidence in the Congress party in Mylliem in particular and the state in general,” he said.

Accusing Dohling of cheating the people of Mylliem, Ronnie said, “He (Dohling) lied to the people, he deceived the people because he fooled them that if Ronnie is re-elected he will expand the jurisdiction of the MUDA which is not a fact which in fact he has replied in the House.”

“When a question was asked by Mawlai MLA that is it a fact that jurisdiction of the MUDA or municipality will be expanded, he (Hamlet) said no in the floor of the House and I have that on record with me. So he lied to the people of the constituency and now he is being paid in the same coin because we say ‘if you live by the sword, you die by the sword’ and ‘if you live by deceiving people, people deceive you now’,” he added.

On Dohling’s decision to quit the PDF and join the NPP, the sitting MDC said, “It only shows that the man has no principle. He goes where the grass is greener but not to serve the people.”

“The people will decide on February 27. You can see the support of the people has already given a decision that this man is not fit to lead the people of Mylliem,” he added.

Ronnie said that he decided to stick with the Congress after realizing that it is the only party that can deliver to the people of the state and the people of Mylliem in particular.

Stating that the Congress has done a lot of work, he said, “We have provided roads, water supply, education institutions, facilities to improve tourism and livelihood of the people. For example, we have this dairy production mission where a lot of youth have taken up dairy farming. That will not only generate employment but that will generate revenue to the state.”

He further pointed out that the state is revenue starve and said, “Now we have to think of having policies that will not only generate employment but will generate revenue to the state and Meghalaya has huge potential and that will be our endeavor when we come to power we will ensure Meghalaya become a surplus state in terms of revenue.”

Expressing confidence to win the Mylliem seat, Ronnie said, “I am confident because of the tremendous support that I am getting now from all sections of the society be it from men, women and especially from the youth and I feel so grateful and so inspired when I see the youth taking part in active politics because It will decide their future.”
