Maheshwari sworn in as new chief justice

SHILLONG, FEB 24: Meghalaya high court fourth chief justice Dinesh Maheshwari was sworn on Wednesday by Governor V Shanmuganathan as the chief justice. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the governor at the century old Shillong Raj Bhavan.

Before his appointment as Meghalaya high court chief justice, Maheshwari was a senior judge of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court.

The oath taking ceremony of the new chief justice of Meghalaya high court was also attended by chief minister Mukul Sangma, Meghalaya assembly speaker AT Mondal, Meghalaya government chief adviser DD Lapang, home minister Roshan Warjri, urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Meghalaya high court judge SR Sen and other dignitaries.

Justice Maheshwari replaces former chief justice Uma Nath Singh who retired on January 14 last.

Before the swearing in of Justice Maheshwari, the lone Meghalaya high court judge SR Sen was appointed as the acting chief justice.-By Our Reporter
