Marngar elected as new KHADC dy Chairman

SHILLONG, JUNE 21: Congress MDC from Mawhati Charles Marngar on Wednesday was elected unopposed as the new deputy chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The election was necessitated after NPP MDC from Mawsynram Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie tendered his resignation from the post.

Marngar was felicitated and escorted to his chair by KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem and former CEM Titosstarwell Chyne.

Giving his maiden address, Marngar sought the support and cooperation of all members for the smooth conduct of the House.

He said that 2023 has been kind to him as he had won the Assembly election and today he was also elected as deputy chairman of the Council.

Later while speaking to reporters after the session, Marngar said that he has decided to support the KHDF EC led by the NPP because the assurances given to him by the previous EC with regards to the border issue were not fulfilled.

“I have been elected as MDC for the past 4 and a half years and you will agree with me that I have tried to take up issues particularly on border disputes on the floor of the House. It is true that assurance was given to me inside the House by the leader of the House to visit the people and villages along the inter-state border. However, it is sad that during the past four years nobody cared to visit the border. I don’t want to point fingers at anybody but the fact is that the assurances made were not fulfilled,” he said.

Marngar said that the newly elected CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem had assured to visit the Block – II area within 2 weeks after the summer session. “I am positive that this assurance will be fulfilled this time,” he added.
