Mawprem dorbar threaten to file RTI against delay in construction of BPL building

Shillong,, Nov 24: Irked by the delay of the construction of the housing project for the poor in Mawprem sanctioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, the Dorbar Shnong member Saturday threaten to file an RTI to find out what is really causing the delay.

The Mawprem dorbar shnong members alleged that the delay in construction of the housing project is because of politicking by some vested interest as elections are drawing close.

Meghalaya chief minister, Mukul Sangma along with the urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the building last year on November 19.

The housing project consists of 48 dwelling units in an area of 9900 sq ft. The infrastructure is estimated to cost Rs 1.77 crores.

The members of the Dorbar Shnong Mawprem informed the general meeting held Saturday that the MUDA is giving flimsy excuses over the delay. The members said, “The CL company HCH management of HCL which is the executing agency for construction of the building claims that since it was puja season most of the labourers are absent but in reality most of the workers are locals”.

To make way for the construction of the building several household were evicted from the site with a promise that they will get proper shelter once the building is completed. The project was earmarked to benefit around forty households belonging to the BPL group.- By Our Reporter
