MBOSE SSLC-HSSLC results: pass percentage stands at 56.76 and 74.78

SHILLONG, MAY 25: The state recorded a pass percentage of 56.76 percent in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination, an increase of 2.72 percent when compared with last year’s 54.04 percent.

However with an overall pass percentage of 74.78 percent this year, the results of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Arts) saw a slight drop when compared to 2017 where an overall pass percentage of 75.38 percent was recorded.

The results for both the examinations were announced by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) on Friday.

A total 28,424 of 50077 students from 593 schools cleared the SSLC exams held in 137 centres, while 17,318 of 23160 students from 226 schools who gave the HSSLC exams held in 100 centres were declared successful by the Board. Girls in both the examinations have performed better than boys.

Garo Hills-based Sherwood School, Tura bagged the first position in the SSLC top-twenty merit list for the second time, while St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong repeats its history when it again topped in the HSSLC this year.

Unlike in 2015, Sherwood School has also improved its performance when it also secured the second, third, fourth, seventh and eighteenth position in the SSLC 2018 examination. St Anthony’s School  on the other hand also bagged the third, fifth, eight, ninth and tenth position in the HSSLC examination.

Anurag Tewari of Sherwood School, Tura became a topper of this year’s SSLC examination by scoring 581 marks, while Lily Kharthangmaw topped the HSSLC examination when she scored 440 marks.

East Khasi Hills District scored the highest pass percentage at 79.04 percent while South West Garo Hills registered the lowest at 26.65 percent in the SSLC examination. In the HSSLC examination, Ri Bhoi District recorded the highest pass percentage while South Garo Hills with only 48.21 percent.

Meanwhile, three candidates were expelled for adopting unfair means at the SSLC (2) and HSSLC (1) examinations 2018 and they have been debarred from appearing the 2019 examinations.
