Schemes:Govt servants, ex-MDCs benefits

mdcSHILLONG, JUN 12: Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) members have been found allotting different schemes to religious institutions, government servants and even businessmen by denying to those the schemes are meant. Moreover, the allocation of schemes to religious institutions is in gross violation to the secularism propagated in the Indian constitution.

An RTI findings filed by Raliang Circle of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) revealed that MDC schemes have been extended to religious institutions and government servants, businessmen and ex-member of the district council.

As per the finding, Jowai South Constituency MDC, D Nongpluh has under MDC’s scheme 2009-2010 sanctioned Rs 42, 000 to the Secretary Chiliang Raij Jowai for improvement of a community hall. While Nangbah Constituency MDC, C Biam in an order issued to secretary managing committee Kyndong Tuber has sanctioned a total amount of Rs 20, 000 under scheme during 2012 – 2013 for the improvement of community hall of Presbyterian, Kyndong Tuber, Sutnga – Narwan MDC S Shadap however sanctioned Rs 30, 000 for the construction of footpath at Narwan Presbyterian Church.

“Extending of such schemes to certain religious institutions by the MDCs tantamount to violating the spirit of secularism laid in the Indian Constitution,” HNYF – RC president Donbok Dkhar told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday.

Another discrepancy revealed by the RTI finding is that government servants, businessmen and ex-MDCs names figure in the list of BPL beneficiaries under Raliang and South Shangpung constituency. They have availed the benefits of the scheme for the improvement of paddy fields, he said.

“This is totally unfair and unjust on the part of the MDCs depriving those who deserve the schemes.” Dkhar said.

Dkhar further informed that the RTI findings revealed anomaly in the distribution of the CGI sheets. “The MDCs of the two constituencies has only taken the signatures and thump impressions of the people but has failed to distribute the CGI sheets to them,” he alleged.

Informing that Pomanik village under Raliang constituency has been deprived of the scheme in the last five years, Dkhar said, “We absolutely condemned the bias action of the MDC by adopting favouritism and nepotism while implementing the scheme.”

It is also informed that the JHADC has sanctioned Rs 6 lakh to each member under MDC scheme for developmental activities in their respective constituencies.

Meanwhile, Dkhar said that it would soon take up the matter with the Governor RS Mooshahary and minister in charge of District Council Affairs and seek their intervention.

Dkhar concluded by saying that they would soon meet the concerned authorities to demand stern action against the erring members of the JHADC for misusing public funds.-By Our Reporter
