SHILLONG, FEB 9: Archbishop of Shillong Victor Lyngdoh has extended his congratulations to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on being conferred the prestigious honour by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Archbishop Lyngdoh praised Sangma’s leadership and values, stating, “This recognition is not merely an appreciation of your leadership, but a profound acknowledgment of the values you consistently uphold in public life-faith lived with sincerity, integrity practiced with courage and an unwavering commitment to the common good.”
The Archbishop commended Sangma’s humility, simplicity, and people-centred approach, saying, “Your life and leadership stand out as a commendable witness to Gospel values expressed through responsible governance.”
Archbishop Lyngdoh also expressed gratitude for Sangma’s achievements as a statesman and his inspiration to the younger generation, stating, “Through your words and actions, you have inspired many, especially the younger generation, to believe that politics can indeed be noble, ethical, and compassionate.”
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India had earlier conferred the National Award 2026 on Sangma, recognising his distinguished public service as a Catholic Chief Minister in India.
In his letter, Archbishop Lyngdoh wished Sangma continued wisdom, strength, and good health, saying, “May the Lord continue to bless you with wisdom, strength and good health and may the Holy Spirit guide you as you serve the people with renewed zeal and dedication.”
