Meghalaya Govt amends its financial rules

The state government on Wednesday approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Finance Service Rules, 1989 to ensure there is a single set of financial rules for the state.

The decision was made at a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma.

Addressing the media, cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said a number of these rules relating to the various departments have come up by way of office memorandums (OMs) from time to time and the various departments were following these OMs.

“But today in order to ensure uniformity and proper codification of these various rules, it was decided that we will incorporate them in the Meghalaya Finance Service Rules with the further approval of the cabinet so all of these rules form part and parcel of a common finance rules of the state of Meghalaya,” he said.

To a question, the minister further explained: “Certain number of departments are following their own OMs, which have not been regularized by way of their coming up and being part of the service rules, which requires the approval of the cabinet. What we have done is that those various OMs have been incorporated into the service rules so that they form part and parcel of one single set of financial rules of the state of Meghalaya.”
