SHILLONG, OCT 16:Meghalaya, the heartland of ‘Indian Football’ is all set to once again become the epicentre of International Women’s Football as it gears up to host the Women’s Tri-Nation International tournament this October. The prestigious event will see the national women’s teams of India, IR Iran and Nepal face each other for the title at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong.
The tournament, which marks India’s first FIFA international window, post their sealed spot at the AFC Women’s Asia Cup 2026, reinforces Meghalaya’s ever-growing stature as a premier destination for major sporting events in the country.
Known for its passion for football, the State emerges as an enthusiastic backdrop for the international challenge. It not only provides a platform for the top-tier athletic competitions but also showcases the State’s warm hospitality to a global audience.
Sharing his insights, Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla, Hon’ble Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, stated, that Shillong has recently hosted several high-profile events, including the recently concluded 134th Edition of the Durand Cup, 2025 and other international friendlies and reiterated that, “Bringing international football of such calibre to Shillong is a significant moment for our State and we are well prepared to host the tournament.” He also assured that the Department have conducted necessary deliberations to ensure its smooth conduct.
The Tournament will feature three thrilling matches, with all of them scheduled to kick off at 6:00 pm (IST)
