Meghalaya yet to accept BJP: Syiem

SHILLONG, DEC 8: Congress working president Pynshngain N Syiem on Thursday said that the people are yet to accept the BJP in Meghalaya and the presence of too many regional parties will be an advantage for the Congress in the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections.

He also said that the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) will not at all affect the Congress’ vote bank except in Garo Hills region.

“The AITC will not affect our vote bank in Khasi Jaintia Hills,” Syiem, who is also an opposition leader in KHADC, said.

He however admitted that the AITC is strong in Garo Hills due to the hard work of its leader Mukul Sangma and said, “But we are still confident that we will win some seats in Garo Hills.”

When asked, Syiem said that the Congress is not interested in having a pre-poll alliance with any political party.
