SHILLONG, JULY 30: A twenty-three year old Elvis Disiar- who is mentally challenged- was beaten to death by a mob on Monday night after he had killed a youth with a dao and injured two elders that includes the Rangbah Shnong (headman) of Mawpen.
The incident took place at around 8.30 pm on Monday in Mawpen village which is located near Mawsynram in East Khasi hills district.
East Khasi hills SP (City) Vivek Syiem told reporters that the mentally challenged Disiar attacked a youth identified as Skelden Syiemlieh with a dao. The victim died on the spot.
After he killed Syiemlieh, Disiar run around with the dao in the village spreading fear among the villagers of the Mawpen.
On hearing about the incident and killing of Syiemlieh, the Rangbah Shnong and other village elders came out to control the crowd hysteria and also to stop Elvis from creating the havoc.
However in the melee, Disiar attack the Rangbah Shnong Ronaldson Mawpud and another elder Badorson Kharbani and injured them.
Enraged at the attack of the Rangbah Shnong and a village elder,the villager started to attack Disiar with sticks till he died.
The Rangbah Shnong and the village elder who were seriously injured were immediately taken to CHC Mawsynram for treatment.
The Mawsynram police rushed to the village to conduct an investigation into the incident.- By Our Reporter
