Militant killed, arrested

SHILLONG, FEB 26: An Achik National Liberation Central Army (ANLCA) militant was lynched to death by angry villagers in a remote village under North Garo Hills District on Tuesday night even as his colleague was seriously injured.

The incident took place at Mendima village when villagers caught two of the ANLCA militants and thrashed them injuring them seriously, Superintendent of Police (SP) in-charge North Garo Hills District JFK Marak said.

The two have been identified as Jehan Momin of Naringre village and Sengrang Sangma of Mendima.

Both the injured were shifted to Dainabubi PHC but Jehan Momin succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, Marak informed.

In another case a Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militant recently surrendered before the police at Dainadubi out post. He has been identified as Harison M Sangma alias Ranja and Rabal.

Sangma hailing from Dokasaram village under Mendipathar in East Garo Hills district had surrendered before the police on Monday.

On the basis of the leads provided by him one 9mm pistol with eight live rounds along with one Motorola wireless set was recovered from his native village where
he had stashed the items, police said.

Meanwhile, another hardcore GNLA militant Lethri T Sangma alias Harara of Samanda Megapgre was arrested by Mendipathar Police from Salpara on Tuesday.

He belongs to the 3rd batch of the GNLA outfit.- By Our Reporter
