TURA, AUG 28: Militants gunned down three persons including an ANVC (B) ultra after they suspected them of allegedly being police informers in village Oragitok village in West Garo Hills District.

The bodies of three persons were recovered on Wednesday morning, police said.

A senior police official said, “One of the deceased have been identified as a cadre of ANVC(B) while the other two are yet to be identified.” The ANVC (B) militant has been identified as Grendal T Sangma.

Sangma has been absconding and was wanted in a murder case in East Garo hills district.

The police officer said before shooting the three around five heavily arm militants came to the village in a vehicle searching for them.

The bodies have been kept at the district Civil hospital.

The police officer did not rule out the killing to be an outcome of a clash between the ANVC(B) and the GNLA as the two militant groups have been involved in clashes earlier over territory and other disputes.

Police believe that the GNLA terminated Sangma accusing him of being an informer since counter insurgency operations had increased in the area in the past two weeks and three militants were killed during the police operation.

Security forces have launched ‘Operation Hill Storm’ to  flush out militants from their hideouts and camps in the jungle resulting in the death and arrest of several militants.- From Our Correspondent
