Rape:66 yrs old arrested

SHILLONG, JAN 10: A 66-year-old man identified as Kentely Tangsang was arrested for allegedly raping the 14 years old minor girl twice in the house of one Mary in Demthring. Tangsang is Mamoni’s, the pimp, friend.

One of the FIRs filed by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) mentioned the senior citizen as one of those who sexually exploited the minor girl.

East Khasi hills SP Vivek Syiem told reporters on Tuesday that a case against Tangsang was registered under Madanryting police station.

But Syiem informed that Tangsang is from Wahkdait village few kilometers away from Pynursla in East Khasi Hills district. The village is also near Dawki in West Jaintia Hills district.

With his arrest, altogether nine persons have so far been arrested which includes the former militant leader turned Mawhati independent legislator Julius Dorphang, five pimps and a waiter of the guest house from where the girl was rescued.

An academician identified as “Prof Roy” was also one among the seven persons named in the FIR for exploiting the 14-year-old minor girl.

Syiem said police are trying to identify the professor.

The other persons named in the FIRs include one Hasan (a scrap dealer) who exploited her inside his scrap shop, a Khasi person from Borsora (who exploited her in a hotel at Police Bazar), one Hosor, who runs an archery counter, one Apu from Jowai and one Sagar who brought an army personnel to the house of Mamoni to sleep with the girl.

Dorphang, who was arrested from neighbouring Assam, had been remanded to five days police custody. At least two FIRs was filed against him one each in Laitumkhrah police station and Ri Bhoi district.

Syiem informed that interrogation against the arrested legislator will end tomorrow adding Dorphang is cooperating with the investigation team. Sources informed that the arrested MLA has denied involvement in raping the minor girl.

Syiem said more arrests will follow in the case and everybody will be questioned (especially those named in the FIR) saying  wherever the investigation leads the police action as per the law will be taken.
