Missing girl body recovered

SHILLONG, AUG 19: The body of a minor girl was recovered on Friday from Umiam, Ri Bhoi district ten days after she reportedly went missing from her residence at Lower Lumparing. Earlier, the district police had also issued a lookout notice for the missing minor girl.

Salma Ahmed (16), a student of St John’s Laban Evening School, went missing on August 9. Her sister Razia Ahmed had also lodged an FIR at Laban Police Station on the same day.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, East Khasi Hills District SP M Kharkrang said, “Her body has been recovered from Umiam today afternoon. The body has been identified by the family members.”

He said a team of FSL experts had also gone to the spot for gathering evidences and the body of the deceased has been sent to Shillong Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.

When asked, the SP however stated that the cause of her death could only be determined after getting the PM report adding investigation into the case is on.-By Our Reporter
