SHILLONG, MAR 21: Defending champion Mizoram beat Tripura 3-0 to storm into the semifinals of the 4th Dr. T. Ao Football Tournament that is being played at JN Sports Complex here on Thursday.
With this win, Mizoram earned full six points to top the table in their group. They will meet two-time champion Manipur in the semifinal to be played on March 23.
Both the teams dished out excellent football, much to the delight of the crowd who came in large numbers to cheer and support their respective teams. However, the first half ended in a stalemate as both teams failed to score despite getting plenty of chances.
Mizoram went to the lead in the 64th minute when F. Lalrinpuia’s long range shot beat Tripura goalkeeper Lalraut Fela. From there on, Mizoram took complete control of the game and went onto score two more goals.
The second goal was scored by Lal Lawnzuala in the 83rd minute and the third and was scored in the injury time (90+2) by substitute Lal Chhuan Tlianga. (By Our Reporter)
