MLA issue certificate

SHILLONG, JUNE 10: As the power of the headmen have been stripped by the Meghalaya high court to issue residential certificate, some of the legislators are providing temporary relief by issuing residential proof certificates to public especially to those who needs it for admission in educational institutions and loans.

“The purpose of issuing the certificate is just to certify their residential proof in view of the present crisis,” Tourism parliamentary secretary Kennedy Khyriem told reporters.

Khyriem, who is a legislator from Mawphlang constituency, revealed that many people, including students and even differently-abled, have approach him for certification that they are residents of villages under his constituency.

According to Khyriem, the problem is because of non-functional of the traditional institutions and their functionaries which has affected the people particularly the students, who are in need of residential proof for applying admission.

Khyriem said that issuing of such certificate has helped public, he said, “The certificate issued has been accepted by educational institutions and bank institutions.”

Khyriem also informed that issuing of certificate by a public representative have also helped people who are differently abled to avail the government schemes and benefits besides the contractors.- By Our Reporter

    The MLA should not be allowed to issue certificate to any persons who donot possessed EPIC or if they are minor family members should accompany them
