SHILLONG, NOV 26: The gang who was active years back has resurfaced snatching money from the people who leaves the bank after their withdrawing money. East Khasi hills police has repeated its earlier advisory asking the public frequenting banks to be careful.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said on Wednesday, “A criminal gang which was active in the city, couple of years back has re-surfaced and the modus operandi of the gang is to target people leaving banks with money.”
Kharkhrang said public especially those leaving from bank are advised not to let go their money bag if anyone tries to distract them.” Asking people to be alert, he said, “The gang would throw some irritants/dirt on the person while another member of the gang would tell their target that something is sticking on his clothes.”
When the person is busy cleaning, another person would snatch away the bag containing the money, Kharkhrang informed.
Kharkhrang also said another method adopted by this gang is to drop money on the ground, tell the “would be” victim that his money dropped and when he is busy collecting the dropped money another person would snatch away the money bag.- By Our Reporter
