More fund to NEC: Centre

SHILLONG, NOV 14: The centre has assured to pump more funds to the Ministry of DONER and the North Eastern Council (NEC) for the development of the North East region.

“I can assure you that in the supplementary demand or in the next budget your NEC or DoNER will get more budgets,” Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal told reporters after a review meeting held at NEC on Monday.

He said that if a state is facing some shortage of funds, the centre will provide supplementary funds as the Parliament session is going to start from November 16.

“I will ask the department to put up a supplementary demand so that we pass in this upcoming session of the Parliament and NEC can get more funds,” Meghwal said.

Informing that a memorandum was also submitted by the NEC, the union minister of state said that he would look into the matter and discuss with the Finance department for providing more budget through DoNER to NEC in order to ensure proper implementation of infrastructure sector like road, transport and Digital India programme.

When asked, the union minister said that the NEC is proposing around Rs 2000 crore for the next budget for the various fields. “I am assuring you that the NEC will get proper budget as per the demand,” he added.
