State mountaineer felicitated by NCC

SHILLONG, JUNE 16: Meghalaya girl Doelyn Kharbhih scaled the world’s highest peak Mt Everest  was felicitated by Brig VK Tiwari ,DDG NER at a colorful ceremony on Thursday. The felicitation was attended by the young & enthusiastic NCC cadets of Meghalaya.

An ex NCC cadet hailing from Ri-bhoi district she created history on May 22 this year when she reached the summit as part of a 25 member expedition team who were flagged off on  March 9 by DG NCC and flagged in on  June 9 by Chief Of Army Staff .

When asked about her experience, she said “The experience was unbelievable, the climate was cold & harsh but my training as part of NCC and what I learnt during the earlier mountaineering expeditions really helped me to keep going”.

She was also thankful for such opportunities being provided by NCC and advised students to be part of it which will certainly help in their overall growth.

She has been part of following expeditions:

1.Rudugaira Peak, Srikanta Peak in 2007, Rudugaira Peak 2009, Mt Bhagirathi 2013, Mt Deo Tibba, Mt Trishul 2015, and Glacier Training Siachen Battle School 2016.-By Our Reporter
