MSSASA stages protest

SHILLONG, JAN 21: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) on Friday threatened to intensify their agitation if the state government failed to release their pending salary by midnight.

This was announced during a sit-in-demonstration cum black flag and candlelight protest held at Khyndai Lad amid the 50th Meghalaya Day celebrations organized by the state government.

Speaking to media persons, MSSASA chief Aristotle Rymbai said it is a shame that the SSA teachers are compelled to take to the streets to demand the state government for immediate release of their pending salaries during a statehood celebration.

“While everyone is busy celebrating the statehood golden jubilee celebration, we the teachers are left with no option but to hold a sit-in- demonstration cum black flag protest just because we are not given our dues,” he said.

Rymbai also warned that the teachers will intensify their agitations if the government continues to be adamant towards their plight.

The MSSASA president further slams the people in power for neglecting the teachers and the education sector.

He alleged that none of the present leaders are concerned about the plight of the teachers.

“We demand from the state government to disburse our salary by today midnight failing which we will have no other option but to intensify our agitational programmes in the coming days till our demands are fulfilled, including our salary” he added.
