SHILLONG, APR 4: In the backdrop of the controversial appointment of parliamentary secretaries in Meghalaya, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said the Congress led MUA II coalition government may collapse under its own ‘contradiction’ and ‘internal conflicts’.

The BJP also predicted that the Congress government under Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will not return to power because of its non-performance and lack of development.

“The very fact that Mukul Sangma found the need to appoint 18 parliamentary secretaries in addition to 12 ministers clearly shows that things are not in good condition in the Congress party,” BJP national spokesperson and in-charge of Meghalaya Nalin Kohli told reporters.

According to him, the controversial appointment of such parliamentary secretaries is also likely to attract legal challenges.

Though Kohli refused to divulge any plan on the part of the BJP to register complaint against the Mukul government, he however said that he is interested to study the case.

Kohli, who was in the state capital to attend the first executive meeting of the party’s Meghalaya unit, was reacting to the recent opposition of Sangma to the way the Arunachal Pradesh government was installed.

Sangma had said given the chance, the BJP would also do the same in Meghalaya.

Maintaining that the BJP will have no role to play in toppling the state government, Kohli however said, “If the Congress collapses, it will be under its own internal contradictions and internal conflicts.”

He further stated the fact that the government has to appoint 18 Parliamentary Secretaries only shows how much confidence the Congress has on its own 30 MLAs.

“This is a government that is stuck on its own contradiction, its growing under its own internal conflict and irrespective of this the government for its survival has washed its hand off development and work for the people,” he said.

The BJP national leader further stated, “Mr Sangma instead of worrying on Arunachal Pradesh would do well to worry about the condition of the Congress party and what people of Meghalaya think about his government in the state.”

“I think Mr Sangma has just revealed how weak his political position in his own party is,” he added.

Stating that the people of Meghalaya will teach the present government a lesson, Kohli said, “In 2018, there will not be a return of the Mukul Sangma government if the mood of the people today is an indicator.”

Boasting that the BJP was able to open its account in the GHADC of Garo Hills, he said, “We are going to work with this message of development, development and development & Sab Ka Sat Sab Ka Vikas of Prime Minister and implement it in every states that we work.”

Meanwhile, the BJP leader also said that the party has pledged to expose the government of the lack of development and point out that the centre is not doing any politics with any schemes.

The centre is sending money but it is the state government that is not taking care of its own poor, he asserted.-By Our Reporter
