SHILLONG, AUG 11: Admitting that ISIS is also a threat to the north east, chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday said necessary measures should be taken by the centre and all respective state governments of the region.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Sangma said, “We have flagged the issue pertaining to this concern before the Government of India much before the threat perception.”

He also said that the state is also trying to prevail on the Government of India to ensure necessary efforts are made by adopting a mechanism involving all security agencies of north east states and those under the centre.

However stating that there has been a collaborative effort to a great extent, Sangma said, “Therefore I will say despite challenges, we are confident in dealing with such situation.”

Referring to the recent killing of 14 civilians in Kokrajhar, Assam, he was of the view that the north east is not protected from such incidences and also considering that Meghalaya share a long border with Assam, it is matter of concern.

“We have to pull in our resources to address and ensuring we are able to deal with such situation,” the CM said while hoping that there will be strong collaborative approach between the state and centre security agencies.-By Our Reporter
