Last year, the chief minister launched a flagship programme to promote Ramie cultivation and promote Ramie fibre, which is believed to be the strongest natural fibre.

“A team of expert is working on the fibre for the past several months and has come up with the first batch of 100 per cent pure ramie fabric”, he told this correspondent.

The chief minister claimed that with the use of 100 per cent Ramie, Meghalaya has produced the fabric, which is first-of-its kind in the world.

He said that the government is encouraging the farmers to aggressively plant ramie.

“The intention of the government is to create an exclusive product of its own and market it. I am satisfied with the experiment. We are confident that very soon we will be able to launch the product”, the chief minister said.-From Our Correspondent
