Navy detect body of trapped miner

SHILLONG, JAN 17: The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) has detected a body in the 370-foot-deep coal mine in East Jaintia Hills District, where 15 miners are trapped since December 13, last year.

“…it is confirmed that the ROV of the Indian Navy had detected a body 200 metres from the main shaft,” operations spokesman R Susngi said on Thursday.

He said the body was detected during a joint operation by the Indian Navy and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Wednesday evening.

Susngi informed a meeting is on to discuss on how best the decomposed body can be retrieved.
