NCP demands security

SHILLONG, FEB 14: Irked by the failure to provide adequate security to its Mahendraganj candidate Mafiara T Sangma, the NCP has again written to the Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Naik to provide security to their candidate.

Sangma is contesting against chief minister’s wife who is the Congress candidate from Mahendraganj constituency.

NCP claims that Sangma has been receiving threats from ruffians and had submitted a complaint to the election department earlier. He informed that she was provided with only two constables for only two hours but later withdrawn without citing reasons.

Once again the NCP general secretary Constantine N Thma has written to Naik on Thursday asking for security cover for their female candidate.  Demanding immediate security, he said that if any untoward incident takes place the election department will be held responsible.

Sangma, too has drawing attention at the threats she has been receiving from the ruffians who are obstructing her election campaigns and even threatening her. She has also underscore the need for security cover for her.

Thma said he doesn’t understand why the government is insensitive towards the security of a young woman candidate when security is provided to other candidates. He said that is it because she was contesting against the chief minister’s wife and Congress out to create problems for other candidates.- By Our Reporter
