NDFB man arrested

TURA, AUG 16: Meghalaya police on Friday arrested one Yakub Ali alias Bhola Ali from Sarangma, near Dainadubi in North Garo Hills which is about 110 km from Tura.

Police said that Ali is associated with National Democratic Front of Bodoland. Ali is married to a Garo lady and lives at Chima Impel village under Mendipathar police station, which is close to neigbouring Dudhnoi town of Goalpara district in Assam.

Alis is alleged to be a key suspect in the shootout at a petrol pump in North Garo Hills district on July 1.  “Ali was involved in various cases and had been working under the command of one Matthew Marak and Raban Basumatary of NDFB”, said North Garo hills SP Jerry Marak said.

Police said that the group also uses the name of Liberation of Achik Elite Force (LAEF) and served demand notes to local residents in parts of North Garo Hills. Police has registered a case and interrogation is on.

In another incident, police arrested the prime accused in the kidnapping of a nine year old from Depa Andok near Resubelpara on Saturday. He has been identified as Lapton Ch. Marak. One Marsing Marak involved in last week’s shooting at Gokol bazar was also arrested today.- From Our Correspondent
